 1. EXECUTIVE CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY (ECOP) MAKUENI

COUNTY:   MAKUENI COUNTY

DATES: 16TH - 28TH JANUARY 2017

The Authority in collaboration with the County Government of Makueni will conduct the ECOP training in the county. This will be the 30th ECOP training conducted by IRA.


Interested persons, who should be residents of Makueni County, with a minimum qualification of KCSE, may collect the Course Application Form from their Ward Administrators’ Offices Makueni County. The form may also be downloaded from the IRA website www.ira.go.ke and College of Insurance website www.coi.ac.ke.
Duly completed forms should be returned to the above offices on or before 9th December, 2016.

Shortlisting will be done between 13th-16th December.
Those admitted for the training will be notified through their mobile telephone.

 2. EXECUTIVE CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY (ECOP) NYAMIRA

COUNTY: NYAMIRA

DATES: 6TH - 17TH FEBRUARY 2017

The Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) has partnered with  the College of Insurance to train, examine and issue certificates in the Executive Certificate of Proficiency in Insurance.

The IRA is the Government agency mandated with regulating, supervising and developing the insurance industry in Kenya.

The College of Insurance is the only public training institution in Kenya and the Eastern Africa region with the mandate to carry out training and certification in professional insurance programmes. The College prides itself in being the regional centre for excellence in insurance training.

Objective of the programme

The purpose of the course is to increase the knowledge of Kenyans about insurance services. The programme is intended to impart knowledge of insurance to Kenyans of all walks of life and enable them earn income through selling insurance. It also aims to encourage them to buy insurance to meet their own needs.

Target group

The target group includes, but not limited to, community leaders, persons involved in other trades and professions, women group leaders, small traders, leaders of local organizations, school leavers and religious leaders who must be all county residents.

Cost

The training and examination are offered free of charge by the IRA who is the sponsor of the project. Participants will only be required to meet their travel costs.

Eligibility

The course is open to Kenyans of integrity resident in Nyamira County. They should be holders of KCSE certificate, over 18 years of age, literate and able to communicate in English and Kiswahili.

Training

The training will be held in Nyamira County for two weeks as follows:

Week 1: Essentials of insurance 6th – 10th February 2017
Week 2: Introduction to insurance practice 13th – 17th February 2017
Trainees will be examined at the end of each week.
 
The course will cover life and general insurance including  selling skills, micro-insurance, communication, agriculture insurance and takaful (Islamic) insurance.

Graduation

Successful trainees will be awarded certificates during a graduation ceremony on 18th February 2017.
Certification

Successful trainees will be issued with an ECOP Certificate and a license to operate as an insurance agent.

The training is fully sponsored by IRA. However, Trainees will be required to pay a fee of Kes.1000 to enable the Authority to license them as an insurance agent upon successful completion of the training.

The Payment for license shall be made via MPESA Pay Bill No. 830300.

Benefits of the training to trainees

The training offers many benefits to the trainee. These include:

1.    A  recognized  certificate  that  will  enable  one  to  obtain employment.
2.    An additional source of income for those already engaged in other trades.

4.    An   opportunity   to   meet   other   Kenyans   and   share experiences.
5.    Become an insurance professional.

Registration

Application forms may be collected, filled and dropped at Ward Administrator offices or MEA Complex 3rd Floor Youth Office. The form may also be downloaded from the IRA website www.ira.go.ke and College of Insurance website www.coi.ac.ke. Duly completed forms should be returned to the above offices on or before 24th January 2017.
